Babyboom in Australien

Canberra - Der Appell der australischen Regierung, die das Kinderkriegen als patriotische Pflicht bezeichnet hat, zeigt offenbar Wirkung: In den sechs Monaten von April bis September vergangenen Jahres kamen in Australien einer Statistik zufolge 133.400 Babys zur Welt - so viel wie seit 14 Jahren nicht mehr. Wirtschaftsexperte Craig James führt den Babyboom allerdings weniger auf Vaterlandsliebe als auf sinkende Arbeitslosenzahlen und größeren Wohlstand zurück.

"Die Paare sind finanziell besser abgesichert und daher zuversichtlicher, was die Gründung einer Familie angeht", sagte James am Mittwoch. Vor rund einem Jahr hatte Finanzminister Peter Costello eine Prämie von 3.000 Australischen Dollar (1.800 Euro) für jedes nach dem 1. Juli geborene Kind versprochen und die Ankündigung mit den Worten gekrönt: "Gehen Sie nach Hause und kommen Sie heute Abend Ihrer patriotischen Pflicht nach.

Australische Zeitungen

Wie auch in Deutschland sind die großen australischen Tageszeitungen eine der ersten Anlaufstellen für Stellensuchende. In der Regel veröffentlichen sie ihre Jobinserate auch im Internet. Selbst Stellengesuche aufzugeben, können Bewerber sich sparen. Dieser Weg gilt als wenig aussichtsreich.

Eine Ausnahme bilden die Stellenanzeigen in den German-Australian Business News, der alle zwei Monate erscheinenden Mitgliederzeitung der Deutsch-Australischen Industrie- und Handelskammer. Darin können Interessierte Stellenanzeigen in englischer Sprache aufgeben.
